This is a tutorial of how to do a quick, TEMPORARY fix for Xbox 360s with the 3 Red Rings. This will last a couple days to around a week until you need to do this again. RRODs are caused by a flaw in the Xbox 360's cooling system which causes the thermal compound (paste on the processor which cools it by transferring heat to the cooling system) to basically melt and splatter a mess on your motherboard. You can permanently fix this by cleaning up and replacing the thermal compound, then over heat it to fuse it back together with the processor and heat sink (cooling system). However, it has been found that if you overheat your Xbox, it will refuse some of the thermal compound and trick the Xbox into thinking it has been fixed. Most people do this by wrapping it in a towel. They don't realize shutting off the fans on the Xbox is easier and the easiest way to do so is by jamming the fans from the outside.

Step 1: Locate your two fans on the back of your Xbox and get a pipe cleaner (or a thin metal rod)
Step 2: Stick your pipe cleaner through the blades of one of the fans. (Don't be afraid to push a lot of it in since the fan is too weak to even slightly bend the pipe cleaner, but on the other hand be reasonable and don't stick all of it in).
Step 3: Do the same with the other end of the pipe cleaner and the other fan.
Step 4: Turn on your Xbox and wait 5-6 minutes for the overheat lights. (You xbox should still be flashing the red rings and you should not be able to hear the fan. Wait until the 3 Red rings turns into 2 Red rings-meaning your Xbox has overheated.)
Step 5: Pull out the pipe cleaners and let the fan run to cool your Xbox. (If you're in a rush to play, simply pull the power cord and the pipe cleaners, then you should be set.)
Step 6: Once your Xbox has cooled down turn it off (If it is still overheated, wait or pull the outlet), turn it back on and enjoy =)

The overheat message doesn't mean anything it just tells you your Xbox overheated and what that means and how to prevent it.
