This is the 3rd Boo Hewerdine song I've covered - which either means he writes irresistably good songs or I'm a scary stalker who does covers.

This is just a lovely melody ( even I didn't totally destroy it). BH says this song has been used in several films - mainly in death related scenes. A uke in my hands doesn't do deathly - so this is perhaps a new slant on the song.

find his live version here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cunQChNiYco - It's so nice. His blurb around the song finishes around 1.45 for those of you with no patience or interest.

  • This is such a lovely song Stu and you performed it so beautifully! I saw Boo Hewerdine when he came to Australia with Eddi Reader. Love his music!

  • @fourteentwelve Thanks for watching M. I keep promising my self 'No more Hewerdine covers" but then I find another stunning song and feel an urge. Have you heard Harvest Gypsie? Footsteps Falling?.....so damned good!

  • BTW, i just now checked and you tube has lots of guys giving lessons on how to finger pick a uke, just type in "fingerpiking uke" chuck

  • @chuxtrux Thanks Chuck. I've been using some of these channels. Been progressing rapidly in the last few months on finger picking - but not ready to go public....just yet anyway!

  • hi Stew. I had not known the writer, but i very much like the lyric. i googled the lyric so i could better understand it. he has quite a gift. i like also that your playing style works against the lyric. that is, the lyric is serious and mysterious. your playing style is solid, driving right along, almost a happy tempo. gordon lightfoot used the similar style. he would write sad songs with happy melodies (that's s what you get for loving me) be well, chuck.

  • @chuxtrux - HI Chuck. Thanks for that interesting comment. I find it so dificult to play the uke with the real control needed to inject pathos and subtlety into a piece of music - so it often comes over as up-beat and jaunty even when I think it's not when I do it!. Thats my next learning challenge!

  • @StubyStubyDoo I probably have heard both of those songs if he played them in concert, but I don't know them by name. You do covers of his songs so well, so definitely no need to stop!

  • Wow!!!! Fantabulous performance, Stu! :-) Love it! X

  • You're really on a roll, Stew. The last few songs I've found myself nodding my head to the music, and I never do that. Great stuff.

  • @StubyStubyDoo have you considered finger picking the uke sometimes? helps if you rest your right hand pinky finger against the sound board. might be an interesting option from time to time when appropriate........or not, chuck.

  • @floydsuke - Thanks floyd glad you liked it and hope you visit again ! Thanks
