This is now a memorial to World War One veteran Henry Allingham who turned 113 on 6th June 2009: He died: at 3:10am Saturday 18th July 2009 ... He had, briefly, become the oldest living man.

In this video Henry Allingham is seen at the Cenatoph in London in 2008 and (via still photos) in Brighton in 2009 ... Henry Allingham was 48 years old on D Day (6/6 1944): When Normandy Landings by Allied Forces spelled the end of the Second World War ... but not until over a year later (11/11 1945). When our 'Enery (apologies to Mr Cooper) was fast approaching 50 years of age ... We miss you Mr Allingham ... R.I.P.

    Mon pleasure ... :p

  • We lost Henry and Bill Stone this year, as well as Aussie hero Jack Ross.

May they all RIP and may they all be remembered.

  • Amen.

  • Lovely tribute video. Hope you don't mind but I've added a link back to it from the page for Henry that is on the Lasting Tribute website.

    A great man.

  • Not in the least! I am honoured; as I am sure that Henry Allingham would have been by your gesture. Thank you ... PJP

  • This was a man who justified his long years on earth by his determination to honor standards so easily forgotten in our day, and those who died that we might live. He set an indelible example. I wept over his death, as should many others. How many men or women of his caliber are alive today? Not enough. Rest in peace, good soldier, great man, comrade in arms who never forgot.

  • If you had any respect, regardless of your entitlement to your opinion you would air your views elsewhere

  • fuck them they were pobably islamic swines

  • I renember last year when it was the 11th of the 11th that 1 minute silence people were still talking in class and "laughing" at those who died.

Some of them got expelled for doing that.

  • Bless you Mr. Allingham and Mr. Patch, God had a reason to let you live so long, perhaps that was to remind us if the loss that war brings, but also to show us the cost of freedom.
