  • beautiful, an amazingly versatile bird.....i ran 34th st heliport in nyc for a decade, but never saw them there xcept at a distance (did ask a skycrane ta come down and hover off the ramp, blew out a few windows and some siding)....but, early 80's, got off the dh prop in molokai, and all of a sudden, down from above a 53 (navy, i think) diving to the deck, pulls a hover, goes back up and does it again...and again, and again...insertion, rescue xrcise?. whatever, still chills me and thrills me.

  • Are all Pavelow's being de-commisioned or just the MH-53?

  • Only Navy the MH53-E is left, which was a newer model form the Late 80's used for Minecountermeasusres.

  • Can't believe it retired for the CV-22B. :(

This will always be my favorite helicopter.

  • And she takes a final bow.

This isn't her last flight. Somebody, somewhere out there, is a private owner of the old 53 Pave Low. It probably saved his life once. But you know there's an old guy out there who keeps one in a hangar, and takes it for a spin every once in a great while.

Now imagine that fella attaching bullhorns to her hardpoints, blaring Creedence Clearwater Revival at private functions.

  • they should get it to transform...

  • @enterBJ40 No problem, I had to write a second part to my response though..

  • @BrassAxe And maintenance cost's were going through the roof.. Since parts were getting harder to acquire. Which also affected mission capability rate for AFSOC. And lastly the electronics upgrades were becoming more expensive. All in all if you were to ask the people that worked, flew, and fought in them, they were indispensable.. Given proper funding, they could have flown for another 30 years, but bureaucrats are idiots nowadays.. Fuck you Washington.. Farewell Pave, Farewell..

  • @BrassAxe well...to bad. i heard its a very reliable workhorse like no else...Thanks for answer, pal.
