Big blockbusters almost always suck, and to say that lame ass tearjerkers were not big blockbusters is just naive.

The ancient Greeks (who invented the drama our forms of entertainment stem from) called this 'catharsis', an emotional purging or cleansing. In fact, it was one of the goals sought in their drama, the release of deep feeling, even repressed tears. It was a kind of purging that the protagonist experienced and, vicariously, the audience. They recognized this as a positive, healing effect. Too bad we don't have more of that today.

Maybe that's why I didn't feel fully satisfied after The King's Speech. No tears. It was too British for that. :)
