Shibuya to Harajuku is a nice ride, and there are lots of shops and things to see on the way. This ride goes from Shibuya Crossing at Shibuya station to Harajuku and ending at Harajuku station. If its a nice day, there is no better way to see Tokyo than by bicycle! You'll be outside, able to see and stop at more places and be getting excercise. Everyone rides bikes in Tokyo - and its safe and easy to get around. It's common to ride on the sidewalks, so you don't have to worry about cars or traffic. You can ride from our bike office to Harajuku via Shibuya in just 25 minutes. TokyoRentabike has rental bicycles for only 900 yen (about 10 dollars) for the whole day.
I like the sound of the cicada chirping away there. This looks so great that I definitely want to try it next time I'm in Japan. Great fun.

Riding on sidewalks does only work if pedestrians and cyclists respect each other. Seems to be the case in Tokyo. In most cities it won't work because some cyclists start to behave like on a race track and then pedestrians start complaining and cyclists are rightly banned from the sidewalks. In my part of Berlin it works, in most it doesn't and it is not allowed anyway.

Depends on the city, really. I've seen plenty of sidewalk-cyclers when I got lost in downtown Seattle a couple weeks ago.

riding bike in tokyo is much more interesting than other metros. Cool that you are allowed to ride on sidewalk. not allowed here in US.
