Hunter × Hunter (ハンター×ハンター, Hantā Hantā) is a shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi with an anime adaptation. The first chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga series began was published in March of 1998, in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump.The manga has continued its serialization and is currently reached 280 chapters, however, the publication history of the Hunter × Hunter manga has been plagued with hiatuses, the longest of which lasted one and a half years, between February 2006 and October 2007. These hiatuses are often attributed to the author suffering from an unspecified illness. As of chapter 280, the series is again, on hiatus, to allow the author time to prepare the next ten chapters.

The story of Hunter × Hunter focuses on a young boy named Gon Freecss, who one day discovers that the father he had always been told was dead was alive and well. He learns that his father, Ging Freecss, is a legendary Hunter, a person that has proven themselves by examination to be an elite member of humanity, with a license to go anywhere or do anything. Despite the fact that his father abandoned Gon with his relatives in order to pursue his dreams, Gon becomes determined to follow in his father's footsteps, pass the Hunter examination, and eventually find his father, to prove himself as a Hunter in his own right.

I wanna cry !! seriously this anime is indescribable .. listening to that soundtrack returns me back 6 years ago when i first watched it .. and i remember how much i was excited .. i even thought about it before sleeping and created my own character !! the drawing the backgrounds the story the soundtracks ..everything is great .. Genius work

I'm 18 years old now and didn't have the chance to watch this while it was going. Ive grown up watching mainstream anime like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Fairy tail etc. And nothing come close to Hunter x Hunter, it is by far the most "complete"(ironically) anime you can find. The ost's are amazing and everything is perfect, and the 2011 version is complete and utter shit compared...

2011 hxh cant touch this. it's insulting to even compare it. when you take away all the good parts of hxh and the amazing music, you take away what defined hxh in the first place. so what's the good thing left about the 2011 one? if i was remaking a hxh anime and wanted to make it as bad and as insulting to the hxh story as i could, i would do exactly wat the 2011 directors did. of course it's always going to be good because it's hxh, but the way they made it is just as bad as one could do so

２０１１版のゴンって何かが足りない、何だろう、ってずっと考え­てたが、カリスマ性がないんだ。竹内順子のゴンには「ついていき­たい」って感じさせるカリスマ性があった。

Sure the 2011 music is garbage, but the series isn't that bad, the pacing is great for the most part, the animation & character designs are nice, but some of the tone has been dialed down a bit which ticks me off, it seems less darker atm, and some of the tender moments & mind games were rushed over a bit. Not the masterpiece the original is (so far) but still good in its own right.
