This is the first of two parts of Voz-Island (Vozrozhdeniya).
Nick Middleton travels across Kazakhstan to the world's most toxic environmental disaster zone, Voz Island in the Aral Sea. He follows the Kazakh water course across the desert, starting in the pastures of the Tien Shan, and hunting with some of the world's last golden eagle falconers, before flying in a home-made microlite following an ancient river course through the desert. He arrives at the Aral Sea, a lake which has become totally toxic through mismanagement of the water supply and overuse of chemical pesticides. It also has an island housing a former Soviet biological weapons testing centre.

Bhopal chemical disaster, BP oil spill, Niger Delta eco-disaster, etc etc etc. Thats the way multinational corporations and US capitalism is treating nature: profit controlled ecocide and capital controlled genocide. That's the real legacy.
