Your explanation about the song as a protest is great, however I love your version and rendering than Bob's.
Harsha Vardhana.

Baez sings Dylan just about better than anyone else, but still can't compare to the man himself. The problem is that even though Dylan's voice isn't great, nobody else can sing his songs with the same vocal inflexions and rhythms. As a result the song's cadence is lost and the result is always a much 'flatter' uninteresting performance.
For one of the worst (or best?) examples of this try listening to Johnny Cash singing 'It ain't me babe' with his wife.

Så vacker och sann text,
She is a powerful and beautiful singer. The lyrics and music are inspired.
But looking back at the meaning after all these years I can see what a sad song this is. A tale of someone who will not give themselves totally to a lover but who always holds back. If I had lived out the philosophy of the song these last 45 years, I would have had a terrible life. This is brilliant art but I am happy I took a different path than the one described here.
