If you're a chocolate lover and recently diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, you must be very frustrated. Yes, it's true, chocolate can irritate the bladder. ICN President Jill Osborne, however, offers some great alternatives that can satisfy the most intense chocolate cravings!

  • I could cry, i love chocolate, coffee, coca-cola & energy juice!! I had a cup of TEA earlier and when i urinated, my eyes watered, a tear went down my cheek and i got stressed and sweaty and had to ask my bofyriend to go home. SICK FED UP OF I.C , WHY CANT THERE BE A CURE?????????????!!

  • @XBrookSay But what you're not getting is that IC is basically an injured, wounded bladder. As such, if you pour acid on a wound it hurts like heck.. thus explaining why the tea was agony. So, think of your bladder as wounded and focus your thoughts on "what would help a wound heal?" Letting acid and caffeine go will help the wound heal and give you some relief. Also, just a thought, but it may also be that you were eating SO MANY of these irritating foods that your bladder just said "STOP IT!"

  • Thank-you for this info. I was having a craving for M & M's, and now I am in terrible ureteral spasm mode that has lasted for 2 days now. I will try the carob idea's. Thanks again,

    Jenni

  • not to sound prideful and I swear by this. I dont think diet has anything to do with my flares. Mine just comes. Ive tried the diet and have even eliminated chocolate from my diet and it did not work. I think that for people like me if your born with it diet dont do any good

I have IC. Im not supposed to have lecithins or soy. Do these bars contain any lecithin? I keep finding lecithin in the ingredient lists of "IC friendly" foods..

  • thank you for this information. I try to follow a fairly strict IC diet and often find myself craving chocolate and have never thought of the substitute of carob. Thank you for the reminder! I now have a trip to make TOMORROW to go get some! :-)
