This is from an old VHS tape of my parents high school alumni jazz band reunion I believe back in 1994. In this video the jazz band is rehearsing Dizzy Gillespie's Manteca. I don't know names of the trombone soloist nor the 2nd trumpet soloist either. The 1st trumpet soloist was Russell Gunn followed by Linnie Yarbrough on alto sax. Some notable musicians to come out of Lincoln High School are Miles Davis, Russell Gunn, Amos Brewer, Bruce Allen, John King, Tony Suggs, Adaron Jackson, Terreon Gully, Montez Coleman, Andre Delano, Reggie Thomas, and many more!!! East St. Louis Lincoln Senior High Schools Jazz Band was led to worldwide recognition under the tutelage of national top jazz educator, Ron Carter.

Ron Carter & Michael Dupard spent years building the East St. Louis Lincoln High School jazz band into a nationally acclaimed unit. Today Ron Carter is over the jazz-studies program at Northern Illinois University and leads the NIU Jazz Ensemble.

  • I use to want to go to Lincoln so I can be on their jazz banf

  • Ron Carter is a fantastic educator- has done some work at Lovett in Atlanta

  • ya these cats are just jammin right now and cuttin up but boy are they groovin hard

  • As a proud former member of this band, there wasn't a more disciplined band anywhere. Mr. Carter would keep us there until 10 pm if it was necessary. We won awards wherever we went! A lot of the musicians went professional and some of them have become famous in the Jazz world!

  • Yea Babies!! In there cuttin up!!!!

  • @lilmogey ..No I have not heard this band.I would like to hear them when they aren't just having "fun".

  • @royalistp ....Nope,it's just a name I made up since youtube would not accept my usual name and password.Kaunas is where I was born, and my Dad told me that I had some royal blood in me,so there is the prince.(big deal, huh?)

  • @kaunasprince

They are pretty good. See you have the name Prince same as mine. Wonder if there's some kind of relationship?

  • They are really good. Noticed you have the name of prince, the same of mine. Wonder if there's some relationship?

  • You obviously never heard this band because they were tighter than most "professional" bands. They toured the world and played alot of the major jazz festivals before they were able to drive. haha
