Directions and Mis-Directions in Equity and Diversity Initiatives.
Not all diversity initiatives were created equal. As attention to diversity has grown more popular, well-meaning people have found more avenues for actualizing it in ways that reinforce, rather than eliminate, inequities. In this research-based presentation under the "Strategies for Closing the Achievement Gap" focus area I highlight several programs, frameworks, and pedagogies schools adopt in the name of diversity which do not, in fact, make schools more equitable and which may do just the opposite.
