Recording session of Rogers & Hammerstein's "South Pacific", London, 1986.

...And they'll say I'm naïve as a babe to believe
Every fable I hear from a person in pants.

Fearlessly I'll face them and argue their doubts away,
Loudly I'll sing about flowers in spring,
Flatly I'll stand on my little flat feet and say
Love is a grand and a beautiful thing!
I'm not ashamed to reveal
The world famous feelin' I feel.

I'm as corny as Kansas in August,
I'm as normal as blueberry pie.
No more a smart little girl with no heart,
I have found me a wonderful guy!

I am in a conventional dither,
With a conventional star in my eye.
And you will note there's a lump in my throat
When I speak of that wonderful guy!

I'm as trite and as gay as a daisy in May,
A cliché comin' true!
I'm bromidic and bright
As a moon-happy night
Pourin' light on the dew!

I'm as corny as Kansas in August,
High as a flag on the Fourth of July!
If you'll excuse an expression I use,
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love with a wonderful guy!

I'm as trite and as gay as a daisy in May,
A cliché comin' true!
I'm bromidic and bright
As a moon-happy night
Pourin' light on the dew!

  • My favorite singer. Period.

  • 2:03 Haha!

  • The "expert" critics who worry about whether she sings English, American, pop, or opera seem so narrow-minded I just wonder whether they can truly enjoy any music at all. When you've got talent, you do it your own way and don't worry about untalented critics. So it's not La Boheme, so what? It's entertainment.

  • If you'd like to hear a good version of this vocal piece, find the YouTube version by "MissBroadwayDork." This piece is just not for Kiri.

  • That was really weird. Actually quite dreadful.

  • She keeps slipping back and forth from an American accent to an English accent and from operatic to popular singing style. It sound like she goes through all 4 iterations during the course of the song. It's awful.

  • Now I'll admit I was sceptical as to whether Kiri could sing this or not, but I think it's pretty doggone good! It's nice to see singer expand their horizons rather than limit themselves to only one genre.

  • I can't believe how bad she is in this. Opera singers sometimes have difficulty with popular music but you would never guess how successful she is by listening to this mediocre performance.

  • and the game it's great!!
