I get the impression here that the little girl had no emotional connection to the poor hamster whatsoever. Maybe it was her brother's pet. At any rate, the best way to bury a hamster-if you have a dog in your household-is to put it in a small, airtight container then bury it at least a foot deep. Those small, plastic coffee jars like Folgers comes in work great. Otherwise the family dog is apt to dig it up and chew on it. It was sweet that you gave it a funeral! :D
