I hope this helps out owners of the GH series Grass Hog Black and Decker weed trimmer. I think the biggest surprise was the hidden screw I discovered under the tip of the molded plastic shaft. This mod made my crappy auto line feed trimmer usable again. Seems like this trimmer has a lot of line feed issues. Good luck with your repair. Or if anyone knows of a direct replacement option feel free to post.

  • Also ive found that you can use a much heavier string with this head than the one its supplied with .... dont know why they didnt supply the heaviest string to begin with which lasts 3x as long.... so i also recommend finding the heaviest string possible that will fit and use that as well

  • I am in Trinidad & Tobago so far from the US.I bot anew GH710 Grass hog. I have the same problem like you even though I used it only once. Black & Decker cannot help because I am not in the US. I am trying to buy one of the rino tuff but there are so many different models. Much appreciate if u can kindly give me the correct model. Great job and many thanks in advance. alimoh786

  • I have had the exact same problem with my GH-700. We shouldn't have to modify a unit because of poor design. Black and Decker should be sued for this piece of crap.

  • Just opened a Grass hog with a problem. Found that the grease had solidified from the grass-dust being sucked in at the vents. When the grease hardened it jammed the plastic gears and stripped some of the two main gear plastic bearings. No parts I can find available as it looks as if the plastic bearing is molded on to the shaft and runs on the inside of a 3 inch cup bearing. Need to keep the vents cleaned to prevent dust and heat from wearing.

  • I've been using a B&D grass hog similar to this one (not as nice though) and haven't had any problems with it until today and was hoping someone could help. When I power it up, it goes fine for about 15-20 seconds then starts squealing and screeching SUPER loudly. It sounds like a part has come loose and is rubbing against something. Has anyone else had this problem?

  • howv do i restring it

  • Thanks .. like alot of other owners of the Grasshog.. the so call auto-feeder was driving my son and I crazy.. we stopped using it until I happen upon your video...

BRING ON THE WEEDS! Thanks again!

  • you pretty much saved my life! my weedeater has been biting me all summer!

  • Thanks!!!!!!

  • Whoever came up with the"automatic feed" on this trimmer should be killed. It should have come the way the gentleman fixed. There no reason one should have to redesign a tool like this.**** Black and Dickhead.
