The independent Kentuckian spirit was always alive in Hunter until the end. I give you a small example, the state of Kentucky refused to officially side with either side during the civil war. It's citizens had sympathies with both sides but the state above all wanted to remain independent. Hunter had that same indepedent quality. He broke the tired mold of the "Culture Wars". He was a diehard liberal who loved to use guns. A man who ran for Sheriff while advocating the use of peyote.
