Common!...coffee should be yielding/brewing at no higher than 94-96C (201.2 - 204.8 F) I couldn't see your temp BTW. Try a 45 at total immersion. YUM
This looks really complicated. Seriously. Does it actually produce noticeably superior coffee to the french press method? (Assuming fresh ground beans and water heated to the appropriate temperature before pouring)
@hgriffin5 Though true, a metal spoon is far more likely to cause the glass to shatter, a long plastic spoon or regularly changing the wooden stirrer are far safer
IMHO, I would urge you not to use a wooden stirrer. The rancid oils that build up on the wood over time will end up adding an undesirable flavor note... a metal spoon is much easier to keep clean...
