http://stairs4u.com/stairlayout.htm If you're planning on building a set of stairs and using conventional 2 x 12 or 2 x 14 stair stringers, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take your time and cut them as straight as possible, to avoid problems while you are assembling your stairs. The bottom of the stair stringer is extremely important and if these cuts aren't made correctly, you could end up with squeaking stairs and other problems.
