Listen and watch as Joseph Smith describes translating a lost book of Abraham from an Egyptian papyrus scroll he purchased from a traveling antiquities dealer.

(This pertains to Mormonism, otherwise known as the LDS Church)

    Thanks

  • I watched another video series on the book of Abraham. The author (donob1) was telling a story very similar to Sitchen's story about the Annunaki and all the Annunaki gods using many of the same names as Sitchen. I wonder where he's getting this. I've been reading the book of Mormon and also the lost book of Abraham and I don't see that in there. I see it talking a lot about "gods" doing this and that but I don't see those particular names mentioned in the actual book. Any ideas?

  • you'd have more credibility if 5 things hadn't happened

    1) Champollion hadn't deciphered Egyptian in 1822

    2) Mr. Smith hadn't said he was translating

    3) Mr. Smith hadn't left notes on the papyri

    4) Mr. Smith hadn't left an alphabet & grammar

    5) those darn papyri hadn't shown up again

but hey, why should you have more credibility that your master?

  • Joe Smith invented an Egyptian alphabet & grammar, putting a complex decoding to each hieroglyph, put to 3 degrees, so that each had 3 levels of meaning, sort of like the aliens in "Contact", it's a layered message

    3 points:

    1) the fragments are ancient Egyptian scrolls from the "Book of the Dead"

    2) proves that he did not know how to translate Egyptian, otherwise he would've known

    3) mormanism can not withstand science; archeology, genetics, textual criticism, history

    has to lie

  • This video makes the assertion that non-LDS scholars were the first ones to translate the newly found papyri, in fact after the LDS church received the scrolls they had them translated right away and then announced that they were not the Book of Abraham. Also you can see that the discussion of the video was purely one sided and biased against the church. To be clear, ounce the church had translated the papyri, they made facsimiles for all to see and examine themselves!

  • Red;

Combine that with the fact that "Reformed Egyptian" is a language that only existed in the immagination of Joseph Smith!!

  • covert said "As far as cold hard facts, there's no way to say objectively which one of us is subscribing to a lie."

Yes, there is a way to show that Mormonism is a lie. The book of Abraham is a phony, Joe Smith could not read Egyptian, so he made it up. Got that? If you believe that just Joe saying it is so is good enough, then Scientology is just as correct. Both scientology, and Mormonism are based on a jerk making up a religion.

  • So the fact he really could not translate helps you know that it was by the power of God? The God of Joseph Smith then looks pretty stupid. If God is this bad with Egyptian, he maybe just as bad with English. But what can you say, your God is just a man.

  • they are many stories about jesus, but only the one thas hi was on the american continent is the one that I don't belive

  • No Covert, that doesn't debunk the claim. What does debunk it is that we have translated the original papyri, and it is nothing more than an Egyptian pagan book of Breathings.(funeral text)
