@GBeret83 - ah but thats the point: A Great horse once they get to 3 y.o. should never be beat after that
-
gotta love garys comment------ 'its difficult to know if we will see the stars' heheh , god if he only knew he was witnessing one of if not the greatest horse that ever lived!
-
shouldve won this race too, was comung to win it before he got cut off! machine!

Even with 2 of the 3 horses that finished ahead of STS in this race being very decent horses in their own right in Freemantle and Black Bear Island. Given what STS went on from this race to accomplish, you wonder how he ever even lost this race?

I truly love to see a smart thoroughbred. It's as if Sea The Stars figured out very quickly after this run that he didn't do things right, and that he would never allow that kind of mistake to happen again. And indeed, he didn't.
You could tell that Sea The Stars was really very green in his debut race. The only time he was ever beaten in his career was in this race. Where he ran 4th behind Driving Snow, Black Bear Island, and Freemantle(Straight Forward). It was one of those situations for John Oxx that Secretariat's trainer, Lucian Lorren had when Secretariat lost an early juvenile race. Lorren kicked a chair across the room and shouted "damn, this horse should never get beat." After this race, STS never looked back.

@GBeret83 you are right he ran like a green horse in a big field, but he learned a lot and kudos to mick kinane who handled him well and was teaching him how to race , i have his maiden win somewhere and i will upload it.and what do you think of the brilliant goldikova ?

@sarsfield7, I've followed racing for many years. I'm nearly 50 years old now. I've seen a lot great champions in my time. Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Cigar, Zenyatta, Sea The Stars, Ruffian, and the list goes on. But never have I seen a champion caliber horse that makes winning at the highest level look so easy. Her cruising speed is just effortless. The only time she ever loses is if the ground doesn't suite. If not for soft ground in the Prix Jacques Le Moire. She destroys Makfi. IMO

@GBeret83 i am the same age and have worked all over the place with horses and i would travel a long way to see goldikova race and churchill downs turf track is not the best and hats off to her she ran her race , i understand she is to stay in training , and i hope that its the right decision , and look forward to seeing her race again.
