the buddhas represent the different lives that one could have based on their sins. These buddhas would be used so that you would be able to move back to being a human where that is the only place where you can gain enlightment and nirvana.

The blade traps can be turned off though. There are two secret rooms right behind the statues with the lever to turn off the traps. Also great place to snipe those 2 red guards with a scope rifle. One of the very few times where my investment in Inspection actually helped me with avoiding death traps.
