That is so cool!!!! I have never seen a school as a high rise building. The student population must be over like 4000 is its in a big tall skyscrapper.

@jimster586 Imagine going to school with a traction elevator? (Correction 4!!!???) The funny thing is my school had a traction elevator with dead man's controls. Unfortunately, it was burned to ashes after a fire in 1968. Burlington/Dover came and installed Jaws of Death and the passenger, which was re-modded in 1994 by Midland. (Ironically hydraulic)

@escalatorgeek881 Vertical high schools are very common in NYC. The average height is about 5 stories.

That is tall for a high school. I guess this is right in the city, and land space is limited.

Cool elevators for a high school.
Are students allowed to ride the elevators here?

@ElevatorGuy7200 Watch the video again, and look for a sign in the elevator. That will answer your question.

One of my coworkers/buddies from HCo went to Stuy. It's a very prestigious high school for math/science and sits on a beautiful waterfront plot too.
He used to mention how the escalators sucked too. I always wondered what kind of elevs/escalators it has. How did you even get in? TriBeca Bridge?

@ElevatingBoston I was here for a student-run program. If you want me to tell you a bit more, PM me, since I would rather not discuss it within comments.

I don't know why but when it opened its doors it sounded like an Otis.

@Pinkergloop GAL interlock, sometimes used by OTIS. OTIS elevators usually use the 6940A interlock, which has a unique closing sound.
