If you read this stuff, you should try "Against The Evidence" (published 1970), which deals a little bit with the gangs but mainly with the Becker-Rosenthal murder case, in which the hired killers were members of the Zelig Gang (or the Lenox Ave Gang, depending on what you read), which was the new Eastman Gang. It's out of print but you can probably order it.

Exposing, well, yes. He was only exposing what everyone knew was there; people knew that the city had lots of gambling joints and knew that cops took payoffs. The writer of this book makes a pretty convincing case that Lt. Becker, though taking payoffs like most cops, was framed on the murder charge.

Haha- worth replying b/c I was so shocked you don't know Scorsese. I'm going to say that the VAST majority of the views for this vid are b/c Scorese made a little movie called "Gangs of N.Y." which is the only reason (for better or worse) that the vast majority of non-History buffs know of the 5 points. You seriously don't know who Martin Scorsese is?

You hadn't heard of martin Scorsese?! 7 Nominations for Best Director by the Oscars! Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Taxi Cab, the Departed, Goodfellas, The last Waltz, etc... etc... etc... He has won basically every award there is to win. His influence on movies is vast and deep. Even if you are one of the very few that don't like him, like rainzoro, if you want to understand movies, eventually you will have to get to know Scorsese's work.
