The Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with Toyota Motor North America, Inc. kicked off its Tree Campus USA Tree Planting Tour with the first celebration taking place at Northern Kentucky University.
Over 75 universities applied to be a part of this campaign and only 9 were selected to receive up to 100 trees each to plant on their campuses in the fall of 2008:
- Northern Kentucky University
- Virginia Tech
- Oregon State University
- Jackson State University
- University of Texas at Austin
- Arizona State University
- University of Nebraska, Lincoln
- University of California, San Diego
- University of Michigan
