This is a new video version of a track I first posted in Dec 2009. I wasn't happy with the slides I used and a few people mentioned that they were a bit insensitive. So I've finally found time to visit the Corus site and take some of my own photos.
I feel passionately about what has happened here as I grew up nearby and worked in Dormanstown for ten years. I can only hope that the workforce get jobs and that the region survives yet another hammer blow after the demise of so much of its industry. We are losing another jewel in the crown of industrial Britain.
Despite its bleak media image, the area that Corus is situated in is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and an area that I visit regularly to paint, compose and take photos. It is a great source of inspiration for many artists. The loss of this plant threatens not only the workforce and the town but the wildlife it has protected for generations. We can only hope that at least that survives
Very good.
