From Friday night at midnight to Monday early morning, Los Angeles will be shutting down a ten mile stretch of the 405 freeway between the 101 and 10 Freeways to help build the last remaining gap of the I-405 carpool lane network.
When completed in 2013, this project will provide commuters with a continuous carpool lane from Orange County all the way to the San Fernando Valley, saving commuters a minute per mile in the carpool lanes or 10 minutes a day saved over the Sepulveda Pass.
To make sure that this 405 closure is a success, every Angeleno needs to chip in to turn this "Carmageddon" hype into a unique opportunity. An opportunity to explore your neighborhood, support your local small businesses, and discover public transportation. Public transportation will be free on the subway and 27 bus lines this weekend.
So please support an investment in the City's roads and highways. This weekend, please ride a bike, take a walk, but whatever you do -- stay off the 405!

It's great how he doesn't need some boring translator nobody has ever heard before to connect with that entire group of his city.
