I remember thinking as a kid that the actors portraying these silly characters were gigantic. Today, I doubt that many of them could win a high school bodybuilding contest. Amazing how much can change in 50 years.

People like Reeves, Park, G. Scott etc. playing as the various Hercules/Goliath/Maciste were impressive. Compared to them, people like Cutler or Coleman seem to belong to antoher galaxy.

@ShuriKurogane @CarlosFinch Yes, but consider that half of the bodyweight of Cutler or Coleman is composed by their gigantic guts.

Nowadays, thick/distended/bloated stomachs seem to be a common sight at the Mr. Olympia and I wonder what Vince Gironda would say about that. Cutler & Coleman are widely admired and that’s ok with me, still many find that the “old school shape” (see Reeves & Park) is by far better.
