Found at Nanaimo District Museum, a Mine surveyors map with diagrams of mine workings beneath the city from1904 and before. From what I could see, the map is of workings that go back to before 1855.
We unrolled two thirds of this restored document on the floor of the programme room and still couldn't see the whole thing. Utterly incredible. We'll try to display it for the official opening of the Coal Mine exhibit in some form or other. Totally awesome.
