We recorded this song, (written by Karl Davis),a few years ago, without having actually heard the original, so it's a bit different. Cliff Hewitt arranged the music and we recorded it in his front room, with Nick on the drums...in the next room!! Bob plays the fiddle, Cliff plays the piano and Thomo the guitar.
I took pictures and video footage at the Inveraray Jail, in Argyll, which I highly recommend if you're passing, as it's really interesting and worth a visit.

  • Was married to a Glaswegian, who had Aunty lived in Inverary, visited in 1964 in a ford anglia,up the rest and be thankful, had not been driving long, what an experience, and the midges !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi Fireman Vic. We stopped at the Rest and be thankful, arrived about midnight after traveling up from Cambridge folk festival. It was blowing a hoolie, throwing it down and we were in my mercedes sprinter, which makes a great stealth camper van! We slept rather well surprisingly...

The midges come out mid May and disappear usually mid September then we forget about them and just when you think its time for a BBQ, the midges appear again, tiny flies with big teeth....

  • Great video!! I want to go there to visit, looks like fun ( for a jail). Love the soundtrack. I believe I caught a glimpse of the singer milking a coo?...multi-talented movie-maker!

  • ha ha, not a chance, they're bigger then me, I might get squashed!

  • thank you Gavin, and thank you to the staff for letting me film them. I wanted to put the lassie on who was knitting but that was the clip I did sideways...doh!! Pattie and me really enjoyed looking round the jail, it was very interesting and time well spent. Michele :)

  • Sounds Great Michele!!! Hope you are having a Great summer!

  • Hi Jim, thanks for listening to it. I've wanted to put it on youtube for ages but needed an appropriate video to go with it. Had a good day in Inveraray looking round the jail after being at the Cambridge folk festival for the weekend. We took a six hour detour on our way home and explored some of the west coast that I've not been to before...it was fun. Hope you're having a good summer too, Michele :)

Gavin - Prison Governor, Inveraray Jail!

  • Thank you, I was a bit worried you wouldn't like it....I hope your family enjoy it too. It was funny, when I visited the old prison in Inveraray, it was a real drizzly day and I thought I wouldn't get enough footage, but in the end I managed, though one video I shot, I did sideways!! Havn't figured out yet if you can turn them round like photos..... Michele :)
