There are 30 Whimbrels at Shimao beach Toyama Bay Japan migrating from South. I can find one different kind of bird that is Bar tailed Godwit. This bird undertakes the longest non-stop flight of any bird from New Zealand to Far East. I could capture this bird on Oct. 5, 2010 at same place(See: Bar-tailed Godwit 3 FullHD JH1RNZ ). The final destination might be Siberia.

  • We have a similar scene on the beaches in Southern California. However, there are usually more willets (a type of shank) than there are whimbrels and godwits. The whimbrels are quite skittish and fly away if you get within around 40 feet. The willets are territorial and do not tolerate any whimbrels or godwits foraging nearby.
