How to Upgrade your iPhone 3g & 3gS from 3.xx firmware to Custom 4.1 Firmware

This vides shows How to Upgrade your iPhone 3g or 3gS running any firmware lower than 4.1 Firmware. It could be 3.0, 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2.

First thing you need is Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 to start whole process and to put our device in DFU mode. Once Redsn0w has sent our device in DFU state then simply close Redsn0w and Open iTunes and upload 4.1 Custom Firmware file.

Below are the CUSTOM FIRMWARE FILES THAT YOU NEED to Upload through iTunes on your respective iPhones

After above Custom firmware file is uploaded according to your device, then simply open Cydia and install "Ultrasn0w". You will be fully Unlocked this time. Now you can use your UnOfficial sim card in your respective devices.

Get MMS Settings for Tmobile/Simple Mobile by adding source in Cydia " http://beta.leimobile.com/repo/ " Then install "T-Mobile MMS Fix/Simple Mobile MMS". Reboot now. Then go to your 'settings' on your iPhone then 'general' then 'Network' then 'Cellular Data Network'. Here enter these settings just under MMS http://twitpic.com/3gcu5t (For T-mobile) and http://twitpic.com/4ouazg (For Simple Mobile). Leave everything else Blank. Hi emac! Quick question: what's the difference between Green Poison and Redsnow? I know that unlocking/updating through Redsnow is way easier and your tutorials are really helpful but one thing I noticed is that my iPhone 3G (I'm on 4.2.1) became slow. I am now trying to downgrade my phone to 4.1 hoping that it will be faster. Does Redsnow affect the performance of the phone? Thanks! Will wait for your reply. :)

@maicafrances All iPhone 3g performance will be slow on 4.1 & 4.2.1. Jailbreaking tools do not effect performances on i_Devices. If you wish to downgrade, then do so in DFU mode. Do not downgrade to 4.1 or 4.0. Reason being all 4.XX versions will have same slow performance. Go down to 3.1.3 or 3.1.2.

And if you want to be on 4.2.1 , try to install a tweak from Cydia 'Speed intensifier' . This will increase performance on your iPhone a bit. You will see the difference.

hey iphone 3 g was 4.2.2 i believe and i downgraded it to 3.1.3 but the red snow can't recognise the ipsw and downloaded diff version and it is the same thin , i got a Sim card for ATT but it is not activating it , please advise if i can return it back to 4.... or keep it as it is and activate whith a way that u will tell me ?? please advise ASAAAAAAAAp
