My least favorite KISS record. It always sounded dark to me. and with mo real feel. The only song that really got me going was "Thrills In The Night". I LOVE that song. Genes tunes are pretty forgettable. They don't suck, i just tend not to listen to them except for when i play animalize. This sounds weird, but i have my KISS LP's in a cycle, so i don't wear out one album way faster than the others.
@dt7089 I agree with your comparison of the 2 albums and I have to say is Animalize is 1 of their best heavy albums out there. Asylum is good but very uninteresting to me all these years. Some songs just don't stick out to me like on other albums.
I have to respectfully disagree with your favorable Asylum comparison. I think Asylum was a good album too, but definitely not superior to Animalize. I hardly think Animalize is one of KISS' best albums, by any stretch, but Asylum, to me, was the beginning of another period of KISS confusion as to what they're direction should be, musically. Asylum just strikes me--from 1st song to last--as a big, formulaic, mail-it-in, collection of songs, with little or no integrity overall.
Possibly the least favorite of all KISS LPs. Largely because the guitar sound (solos) is unremarkable. Some great songs here. Some poor also. But this was not a unified KISS and Mark (RIP) was NOT a good fit. People often cite this as a great disc BECAUSE Heaven's was a big hit and that was possibly their first contact with KISS' music but even it's follow-up Asylum was closer to the mrk than this one. Still there's some great things here.
