He was one of many. Oppenheimer solved many technical problems with the bomb as did fermi and many others. Szillard initially thought up the atomic bomb being inspired by H.G. Well's novel "The world set free"

Although I still think he is a great man and a hero. I hope if hell exists he doesn't go. I don't like the idea of the ATOMIC BOMB, but at the time, it was necessary.

And even if HE didn't invent the bomb, what makes anyone think that we wouldn't have it by now anyways by someone else.
