Very nice! I also like the great performance of this by Gutierrez.

FWIW, he cuts mm164-173. No idea why. I imprinted on this recording, and when I first heard the uncut cadenza it was like getting ten more bars of Prokofiev for free.

A real great interpretation by Bolet. The melodies are really played by a full control manner and mastery meanwhile the tempo is a real magic

@punkpoetry I think that only applies to this movement. The 3rd movement (Intermezzo) is vintage Prokofiev - sarcastic, lyrical, and trailblazing.
Even if this movement is Rachmaninovian, the modulation sleight-of-hand in the narrante section and the grotesque romp before the Cadenza all bear Prokofiev's stamp.

This is a fantastic recording! I wish he hadn't cut so much material from the cadenza though.

"I mean, the main theme of this movement is practically Rachmaninov"
that, and also because it's a technical fiend of a piece, which some pieces gain popularity just because
-
agree with all the superlatives, it's indeed a fantastic, insuperable recording. sometimes though I'm mystified by the popularity of this concerto vis-a-vis the other ones, esp the last two. It is a fine piece but a bit too grandiloquent to be placed alongside Prokofiev's very best compositions, which are much more subtle and innovative - I mean, the main theme of this movement is practically Rachmaninov...

A properly neo-classic interpretation. Etched in steel. Intelligent and controlled. Bolet and Prokofiev in excelsis!
-
yes pdbracken - the other recording with cox also has the cut in the cadenza - there are many other recordings of this work so i should look for them!
Finaly, I hear Prokofiev, and not someone's viewpoint of Prokofiev. Superb.

Read somewhere that Richter considered Bolet's performance to be THE Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.2.
