You can't count on studio recordings to gauge size of voice...in the San Francisco Ring she blows everyone out of theater (a recording, but not studio where you can fuss with individual microphones...)
@philipc67 Well, I will admit that this is the worst I've heard her sing, and if the sound engineer kept both mikes at the same level, then she did have a bad couple of days...I believe she's lost a lot of overtones to her voice that may make some of her hight notes seem a little flat...
I very much doubt that any sound engineer worth his salt would jeopardise the integrity of an important opera recording to serve the whims of the tenor.
I very much admire Eva Marton (have seen her as Turandot and the Dyer's Wife and she was excellent) but YES here she is bad, and sounds really flat in nearly all the high notes.
@philipc67 Sorry, but Marton is not 'terrible' in fact she was a great Brunnhilde that I heard in San Francisco with Rene Kollo 20 years ago. She had one of the biggest voices. So somehow Jerusalem must have talked to the sound engenier to make him sound fuller that Marton. Marton isn't any flater than 98% of the sopranos that sing this role...which is pretty damn good!
On aurait que des Brünnilde comme ça le chant wagnérien se porterait bien.... Et oui c'est un rôle de soprano... Pas de Mezzo contrairement à ce qu'on fait de nos jours.... Elle a plus d'aigues que de graves.
It is interesting that she is even flat in this studio recording...I don't know how a conductor or a singer can let the flat notes in a studio recording...Eva is fantastic anyway!!!

She is terrible, all the high notes are sung flat. How Haitink could have allowed it is beyond me. She should have never made this recording!

it's like Siegfried Idyll, only denser and more condensed, and a little less peaceful
