Sure, but Poley stayed with Fred and the "Pennsylvanians" for as along as he lived.

There's usually more people with more money at an auction than you...but you did get to play a few rounds of golf at Shawnee Inn!

Eva,Fred Waring's relations live in this town.I love that German type tuba blasting away.

Poley had a "froggy" voice that was perfect for "novelty vocals". In fact, at one point, Max Fleischer tried to hire him as "Popeye's" voice after Billy Costello was fired in early 1935, but Waring got wind of the idea, and flatly refused to allow Poley to work outside the "Pennsylvanians".

Pogey could have made big money as Popeye.

At least you tried, 'big'. Incidentally, this particular line-up included Jimmy Mullen on tuba, Poley McClintock on drums (he was part of Waring's first organized band in 1915), Nelson Keller and George Culley on trumpets, Fred Campbell and Will Morgan doubling on clairinet and alto saxes, with Earl Gardner another altoist; Elton Cockerill also on clarinet and tenor sax, Bill Townsend and Francis Foster on violins, Fred Buck on banjo, and Tom Waring doubling on piano and vocal.

One of my old time neighbors eyes lit up when Poley McClintock sangs the vocals.

Yes I did about 35 years ago before a back operation.Doc suggested I quit.
I went $400 on about 20 boxes of 78s and lost. What I wanted were the Victor scrolls with White Labels including Coon-Sanders+Jean Goldkette.I did get some nice Albums.

I have a copy of this someplace; I first began appreciating this side in the early '70s. Waring endured as an orchestra and choral leader for over 50 years....

This is one of Waring's better efforts.Never was into his later chorus groups.I went to the auction of his stuff and got very little, also played golf at his Shawnee Inn.
