Nobody knows what causes this rare behaviour in guinea pigs. A mystic trance, dominance, stress, or an exuberant song have all been suggested. Orkney kept it up for about ten minutes, towards the end of a chilled-out evening with his companions. The others all hid when he started. So did the cats! Afterwards, he scratched his rump, yawned, ate some hay, then chased his brother Barry around the pen. Make of that what you will.
My pigs often chirp together. Have tried to film it but they stop when they hear the camera's 'recording' beep.
When mine do it, i THINK the boys are trying to both impress the girls at the same time (yes, cages are separated)

Hmmm... I think castlegardener's explanation is closer to the mark for our lot--we don't have any girls. Although, we think one of our boys might be gay.
