Mashala, Sefardi, Mizrahi and World Groove Music, based in Barcelona, Spain.

Ellen Gould Ventura, Principal Singer / Director (Canadian-Spanish Sefardí)
Ernesto Briceño, Violín, folk fiddles, vocals and supplementary percussion (Venezuela)
Aziz Khodari, Principal percussion and singer, (Morrocco);
Franco Molinari, Stand Up bass vocals y supplementary percussion (Italy);
Lautaro Rosas, Laud/Saz/Çumbuç (Chile/Spain)

Current additions, musicians: Manolo Lopez , Stand up bass (Spain); Occasional Guest singer and Percussionist, Neila Benbey (Algeria)

Like the branches of an ancient tree, the roots of Judeo-Arabic music are inexorably linked in the repetoire of Mashalá. The versatile band delivers beautiful and haunting melodies from the realms of Sefardi exile such as Turkey, Greece, Morroco, Algeria, Tunis, Lebanon,
Iraq, Armenia, Bulgaria, Romania, etc.: An ecclectic yet ample selection of post-inquisition songs of Sefardi, Mizrahi and Al-Andalous origin in Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) Hebrew, Hebrew-Rashí (Maghreb), Arabic and French.

In Mashalá's concerts, the group combines devotional and secular worlds with their ancient roots combined with their own contemporary musical influences. The response to their music from the audience is almost immediate and results in an instantaneous appeal by the public provoking them to dance, move and accompany the band in a contageious display of rhythmic accompaniment. Their concerts build from a mix of soulful laments to joyous up-beat and high-energy songs, converting into a festival for all ages and peoples.That being said, the music of Mashalá!´ has universal appeal.
