I wrote this to perform at the 2011 Phoenix Comicon's Nerd Poetry Slam. I'll be writing an entire chapbook of doctor who tribute poems. I've included the transcript of the poem below.

"The TARDIS"

I appear disposable,
Like used torch wood
Magnificent in it's prime
Reduced to nothing worth noticing
A barely there blue box
In serious need of cleaning.

But if you look inside—
Inside my dingy exterior,
There lies a room bigger than you can imagine
With a heart that beats not with blood
But with the very fabric of space and time
Burning as bright as a Gallifreyan sunrise
I am more art piece than space ship
But do not call me a time machine
I more than a fucking time machine
I am Time and Relative Dimension in Space
I am the TARDIS
And I am fucking amazing!

Dear Doctor,
When you stole me,
I remember sensing not love, but fear
Fear of a vessel that could tear dimensions asunder
Step through millennia,
The way you stepped through my doorway
You feared not my power, but what my power could be used to do

But the first time you regenerated,
You knew there was something more to me than machine
You are nothing without me,
Two hearts inside of a fragile fleshy box,
Regeneration impossible,
But together—
Together we form a trio of hearts capable of
Beating the very laws of physics
That allow us to exist in the first place
Daleks and Cybermen be damned
Companions would come and go
But together we were unstoppable.

Eventually you will go,
You will regenerate your final time
Live your final life
And I will never tell you how jealous I was of Rose
How much it hurt to see you fall in love with another woman
While you were inside of me
I will remain your silent partner

And I will be alone.

The last of my kind
Overlooked as a simple blue box,
Built to be ignored.
My very skin designed to make me inconspicuous to the world
And I will see the end of time, one last time—
But as the suns of our galaxy implode,
And the universe snaps in upon itself
The stories will say there is no Tardis without my Doctor.
They will call me nothing more than a time machine
With a broken chameleon circuit
But shout from your place in the heavens
With the rest of the Timelords
Be the voice I am incapable of using
Call me by the names of my family
Call me Sarah Jane
Call me Bad Wolf
Donna, K-9, or the Face of Beau
Call me Doctor Who
But do not call me a time machine,
I am more than a fucking time machine.
I am The TARDIS.
