The reason that you have to keep the text on top of the video/picture file is because Vegas works in layers. Since the text has transparent background then whatever is underneath it will show up. However, the ship has a black background so you won't see anything that is underneath that layer of video.
If you changed the transparency of the ship photo and then had the text under it, you would see it in the frame... anyways-
All of these tutorials were very helpful.

Watch all yours Sony Vegas basics Tutorials and have to say that they were very informative. Expecially how to render a movie as a draft just to watch it.
Anyways, nice videos, please do some more. You have realy pleasant voice and I love watching these. Alot better then help files :p
