And I should have mentioned that every living thing within 100 kilometers of Yellowstone would have their flesh vaporized, their bones shattered like glass and their skulls exploded, purely from the heat of pyroclastic flows. These eruptions are terrifying and depressing events to behold no matter what state in time they happened, and they talk about it like its an event of no particular importance, something that shouldn't be remembered, except for the fact that it formed the park.

The guy doing the commentary makes the volcanic eruptions sound so bland. But they were some of the most catastrophic eruptions that central America ever saw. Most animals within a few hundred kilometers of the caldera rim would have died in an agonizing way, from the volcanic ash. It would be extremely hard to breathe. Your bones would grow rapidly as your lungs fail to control your bone growth hormones. And it would all last a month, before you choked to death. They underplay this so much...
