  • Hi Juan. I did study history in college but I always loved the subject. Especially the American Civil War. I have taught but not necessarily history. Hopefully more topics will come about soon. PAX.

  • I loved the post, but how about a little Chet Baker in the background? That'd be nice.

  • Wow! That's amazing! Who knew? Passing down a "family fork?" Lol. That's very interesting. By the way, I only got the reply once so everything was fine. So, how'd you learn all this stuff? Did you study history at a college or something? Are you, perhaps, a history professor?

  • Julian you may be getting this reply twice. The fork dates back over one thousand years and was first used in the Middle East. By the 14th century it made its way to Italy. Only the rich used them and it was not unusual for a person to put the "family" fork in his will to hand down to their heirs. The Catholic Church was oppossed to the fork, saying that God gave us the perfect eating instrument our fingers! It took a few hundred years for the fork to reach England and other parts of Europe.

  • Lol. I enjoyed that story. If you have time, could you tell me about the "fork" as well? :) You are a very interesting person. More exciting than all the history teachers I've ever had :)

  • Blame it on Confucius 551 BC. Legend is that there were too many knife fights when people were eating and he recommened that a new form of utensil be used. The chopstick. The fork is another story.
