"approach" referring to Vangelis method of recording/composing/performing. First section is based on the track "horizon" , the second section is my own little comp. inspired by the first part. I read somewhere that Vangelis would improvise and record different pieces of music at nemo , then "stitch" them together in the recording process, knowing exactly what he wanted to achieve as the end result. He really is the master at it. Here I played live as much as possible, then added some extra little phrases after on a multitrack. A much more enjoyable way of making music than fiddling with a computer:) Remember Vangelis did not have midi when he recorded some of his most beautiful pieces of music. I hope this inspires anyone thinking of starting music production

  • Hi Mike ! What is the effects path & device(s) you are using for the reverb ? It sounds great !

  • @eXXXXos cheers:) very simple setup- synths go into mixer, the mixer has a long hall reverb which goes straight into ableton as audio . I can never understand fx send/returns , too confusing for me . I never get a clean sound this way, it may sound warm but an engineers nightmare:)

When playing or messing about I usually record exactly what i'm hearing at the time with outboard fx, downside is that it is set in stone so to speak.

  • Hi Mick,

Thanks to watching your vids I decided to track down an ensoniq esq1. I managed to find a faulty one on ebay cheap which I fixed and now just have to figure out how to play the thing! Your music really is top notch and I am a regular listener. All the best...

  • @tomscruiser Thankyou for the kind words, hope your ESQ is running well! Its an amazing synth, but must be worked at to achieve the potential, it has such a unique sound:)

  • Fantastic work Mick!

The piano sound in the beginning and the lead, are those of the ESQ ?

  • @magevers Hi there and thanks:) yep, the esq on piano....i've recently got steinbergs grand 3 which has a great vst of a yamaha CP80, it sounds amazing, you should check it out

  • this one is amazing mik , i love it

  • Vangelis approach, true, yes, but by improvising along you will reach your own style, probably, these old analog sounds fits well, nice chimes! I would love your album, if you have.

  • for the first time зашел on your channel and me much liked your music, performance and that as you work in frame.

Shall Now keep a check on your creative activity.

    Respectfully yours. Evgeniy from Moscow

  • I check out your videos every so often. I just noticed that we are both using the ESQ for piano. I have an ESQm though and I use my microkorg for a controller. Check out the piano patch in Transoniq Hacker Issue #39 It's really great!

    Keep jamming!

  • lol I was wondering in other videos what synth produced the very real sounding chimes :p great stuff!

  • Brilliantly done! If Vangelis is the king, you must be his crown prince! I love how you fiddle with Vangelis' sound and style, creating something similar, yet different. Thanks for sharing this with us, and keep up the good work. PS Ever thought of publishing some of your work - covers as well as your own compositions...?

  • Nice seeing the ESQ1 getting some work. You should be in Hollywood..

  • I can't stop to watching it... Impressive! I remember once you had a video showing us how to make the vp330 sound on microkorg.... Well, i just bought one few days ago and i would really like to replicate that sound but i can't find the video. Do you have the parameters? Thank you very much M.Daniels

  • MICK , YOU ARE WONDERFUL
