It's highly stable, but that doesn't make it easy to fly. I highly recommend investing in a simulator. You're going to crash, might as well get the first 50 crashes out of your system on the simulator... it'll pay for itself.
Aside from a soldering iron and a couple hex drivers, you don't need specialized tools.
