"Niobe"'s most extraordinary feature are associated with the role of Anfione, a vehicle for castrato Clementin Hader and a tribute to Steffani's employer and the opera's commissioner for Carnival in 1688 Prince Elector of Bavaria Maximilian II Emmanuel.
