At Comerica Park in Detroit, the Tigers continue their dogged pursuit of first place, 2.5 games behind those pesky Cleveland Indians. Looking at the scoreboard and seeing that the Indians defeated the Twins in competition that afternoon, the pressure was on to get the win against the last place Royals. Down 2-1 for much of the game, they managed to tie it at 2 in the sixth inning and carry that tie into extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Catcher Gerald Laird entered the game as a pinch-hitter for that day's starter, Dusty Ryan. Ryan was 0-for-4 that day. Laird was able to reach base via an error. He advanced to second base on an Adam Everett sacrifice bunt, and to third on a wild pitch to Right Fielder Clete Thomas. With a 1-1 count to Thomas, Pitcher Robinson Tejada throws a low-90s fastball high in the zone. Thomas lofts it into left field, where the Royals are unable to cut down Gerald Laird, and the Tigers secure the extra innings victory and take their division title race into another day.
I agree. Three cheers for a CPU that thinks it can gun Laird out at the plate!

Why did they catch it? In that situation, I'd of rather had a foul ball than an out and a tag up run.
