I shuffled some audio from the hilarious "Good Grief! The comedian's a bear!" routine to illustrate why it would NEVER be as funny told right as it was when told disastrously.

I was using a video program to edit the audio, so I figured I might as well give you something to look at. These are Palisades action figures of Kermit and Fozzie, crudely puppeteered to the re-edited audio tracks of Jim Henson and Frank Oz. I had Kermit in my left hand and Fozzie in my right.

The backdrop for Fozzie is a modified frame grab of the backdrop seen in numerous episodes of The Muppet Show, printed onto adhesive paper and applied to foamcore. The red curtain backdrop is the package insert to a set of Disney Parks-Exclusive vinyl figurines for Muppet*Vision 3-D.

If you have never heard this joke in its original form, go find it, right now. When they keep messing it up, and keep getting frustrated with one another, it's about twice as long, and a true comedy team gemstone! Such perfect performances, such exquisite timing.

The inspiration for this was a conversation on how I would rather watch Tim Conway and Harvey Korman's outtakes on The Carol Burnett Show than to see their rather dry 'flawless' performances.

  • Where did you get those figures?? Perfect!

  • @dpanessa They were available a few years back at various retailers like Toys R Us, Target, Electronics Boutique, and Suncoast. They were made by a sorely missed company called Palisades. They did a whole line of wonderful Muppet figures, then suddenly went out of business. My theory? Their quality was so good they made the rest of the toy industry look bad, so some other company like Hasbro hired an assassin. Just a theory, though.

  • When the joke was told "wrong", that's what made it funny, so in fact, it was "right". Compared to the original, this clip is sorely lacking.

  • @AntK1968 That was the whole point of the exercise. Re-read the full description, where I clearly state that this one makes it worse by getting it right on the first try.

  • where did you find the picture of the backdrop? (Fozzie's)

  • great

  • When I read the title, I was sure you edited the audio around. Great job!

  • There you go, spot on. The fact that they got the joke wrong so many times is exactly what made it so hilarious.

  • @Muppetaz1 I used a program called VLC Player to take snapshots of frames from two episodes of the Muppet Show: Edgar Bergen and Steve Martin. From these two glimpses of different areas, I was able to piece together a hybrid version in my photo-editing software, which I printed onto adhesive paper and applied to a piece of foamcore.

  • Check out my Muppet figure comp u might want to enter
