Tom Simpson

I was given a book to read about a Famous British cyclist by a friend, he said "Hey D, I think you should read this....do you know who Tommy Simpson is?"...my answer "Duh no!"

So read this enthralling story of a young dashing, charismatic cyclist who in the 60's achieved amazing fame and status (the kind Lance Armstrong fantasised about) all before winning a tour! This guy had raced on tracks I had raced upon....I was inspired! The inspiration was one born of despair as I read on and discovered his fate and untimely death. Basically, this was a world class athlete who had lived and died a rock'n'roll lifestyle..... so ultimately it inspired this song. I believe the book was called "Please put me on my Bike", apparently the last words to leave his lips.......
