We are losing precious rainforests, CO2 is rising, government is running out of landfills, bees are disappearing, rice production is decreasing... Are you aware that your eating habits are directly connected to these problems? More and more people are deeply concerned about these problems but may not realize that our eating habits are a major contributor. Justlife, a company that has been promoting Earth-friendly lifestyle since 1999, has organized their 5th Justlife Earth Day Carnival at Sunway Giza Mall Kota Damansara, 20 to 24 April 2011, to inspire the public to adopt Earth-friendly diet. It is appropriately themed "I'm on Earth-friendly diet." You can expect a real festive mood where you will appreciate food created with respect to the people and Mother Nature. Meanwhile, you will also gain some insights about how your choice of diet affects the world. Yes! To protect our planet, every bite counts.

If every Malaysian cut down just two bites of meat a day, we can save approximately 2.4 million tons of grains and 2.4 billion tons of water in a year! This is a shocking statistic; nevertheless it is a reality that our choice of diet has a direct impact on the environment as almost everything that we eat comes from the soil. The price of one hamburger is fifty five square feet of rainforest, which also means the end to half ton of trees, seedlings, seeds, insects, birds, reptiles, mammals, beneficial fungi and microorganisms. The business of growing animal feeds is heavily chemicals-dependant in addition to heavy usage of water, and studies showed that over 50% of GE grains are fed to animals. Massive use of synthetic farm chemicals especially fertilizers has destroyed precious lands turning them into deserts. What are we leaving behind for our children? Soil or sand? Big corporations are buying up leading seed companies and they have genetically modified seeds of our staple food like soy and corn and now own patents to these GM seeds. Like it or not, this is a seed monopoly conspiracy in the making. What will happen to our rich diversity and heirloom crops?

The good news is you have the chance to change the world at least three times a day! Looks like it is very clear that we must start a new relationship with our food to reclaim our food, our health and our planet. You can do your part - support organic farmers, buy local seasonal produce, go meat-free, and bring your own tiffin carrier and shopping bags. Justlife aims to create more awareness and inspire Malaysians to take positive steps for a better world. This year's Justlife Earth Day Carnival will feature chic eco café with life performance, organic farmers market, eco installation art, organic cooking demonstration by celebrity chef, and of course, lots of Earth-friendly shopping opportunity. It is comforting to see that many individuals, schools, businesses and media are supporting this event, all united for the sake of inspiring the public to preserve the Earth for our future generations.
