There are all kinds of DIY projects that show you how to create a custom camera 'Lens Hood' or Matte Box! But sometimes the 'quick fix' isn't a DIY!

Check out this cheap, easy to setup camera attachment that works perfectly as a camera lens hood/ matte box!

Here's more info (and good price) on a rubber lens hood:

  • Any tips on finding a hood that won't produce a vignette effect on my footage? It's hard to find a big hood for my 37mm threads, most hoods I've tried all have a vignette effect when I'm fully zoomed out. Not only that it's hard to find a rectangle hood it seems.

  • @Metzgermeist You could always look into making your own with some black foam board, or investing in a pro version. When zoomed out wide, I have just 'flagged the flare by holding a black foamboard in place.

  • my lens size (diameter is 58mm) which size hood do i need?

  • @SpyderBlackLives take a look at the specs of your lens to be sure the "filter size" is 58mm if so, you could get a 58mm hood. Or do what I show here and pick up a step up ring (58mm to 77mm ring) and then get a 77mm hood.

  • I bought two of these rubber hoods about 6 months ago, and one fell apart! I'm done with rubber hoods, I'm going to pick up a 120 hood to take it's place on my 50mm 1.8.

  • @blickblocks interesting, did the rubber degrade, or the hood fall off the ring?

  • @Knoptop The living hinges wore out. I'm an industrial designer, so I was actually quite surprised. On a living hinge all the molecules are oriented the same way, which usually means they are the strongest part of a product with them. It's unlikely that a living hinge fails, and if it does it points to poor material or faulty production. I'm off to the store to buy a hard hood today.
